“From the Charlie Longsdon camp and expected to continue the good work he has started just recently. They went a long time without any winners in the depths of Winter but have bounced back nicely and the news on this one is he has still got a few pound in hand despite being top weight here. There are a few dangers but they're expecting a big run and will be disappointed if beaten here.”

“Has been the outstanding hunter chaser in the country for the past year or so and although there are plenty of dangers in this from both sides of the Irish Sea, this fella makes by far the most appeal although Shantou Flyer a big threat. This fella well fancied to land this and can be backed EW at 5/1 generally.”

2 Defi Du Seuil (FR) 6 11-4 P J Hobbs B J Geraghty
“The first event of the day and it's a cracker with plenty of good messages in here but none stronger than this one. They have a chance in the second event too with Samburu Shujaa but we have a huge price job against that one. In this event though the ground will be ideal for this fella and although he wouldn't be our strongest proposition of the day, he is expected to get us off to a good start to the day at aorund 3/1. ”

19 Tobefair 9 11-0 Mrs D A Hamer Thomas Bellamy
“Currently 50/1 accross the board and while we can't say he will definitely win, he is expected by his small yard to run an absolute stormer here today. He is reported right back to his best and although even that may not be good enough, according to some, he is expected to run a blinder here and is worth a modest interest at that price. Of the rest, Samburu SShujaa and, in particular, Culture de Sivola are also fancied but this fella makes appeal at 50s and is expected to go very close. 50/1 with Betfair sportsbook and 6 places.”

1530 Sun Racing Stayers' Hurdle (Grade 1)
10 Paisley Park (IRE) 7 11-10 Miss E C Lavelle Aidan Coleman
“The horse of the year in many respects in terms of his improvement this year and we were all too well aware of this come the Trials meeting this year. He was our first Professional Bet of the year and did the job as they should, winning by twelve lengths, comfortably. He takes on his biggest challenge so far in Faugheen, a former Champiion hurdler who doesn't have the zip he once had but is still a major player at this trip. He will set a searching pace and we know he stays as he beat last year's winner of this race at Punchestown. That said, we don't fear him as this fella is on the upgrade and that is not the case with Faugheen and invariably those whose star is on the rise will invariably beat horses of a similar level who are on the down grade and maybe don't have the stomach for the battle any more. This fella is roaring at home and is ready to go. Improved again and expected to win here. The ground is ideal and he's ready. 7/4 at Skybet and Paddy Power your best price. 3pts win”

“Wide open handicap as usual and plenty fancying their chances. We have won this before at a big price and this fella is in the peak of condition. The yard have had a few disappointments of late but this fella expected to drag them back into form and they're expecting a big run. Quietly fancied EW at around 20's here.”

3 Band of Outlaws (IRE) 4 11-8 Joseph P O'Brien J J Slevin
“Useful juvenile who has a bright turn of foot and will be ridden to use it. Has already shown the ability to handle slow ground in Ireland and although there is a possibility we will see some drying of the ground with the strong winds prevalent today, he has won on better ground too showing exactly the same trait. Its highly competitive all that said with the like Fanfan Du Seuill and bpth Ciel de Neige and King D'Argen all subject to favourable messages but this one is from a yard with a plethora of good juveniles and this fella is expected to land good strong EW support today, at the very least. Well fancied at 5/1 generally but 5 places with B365 and 1/4 odds. 0.75pt EW”

“Jamie Codd showed he had lost none of his ability when strongly forcing home the winner of the four miler late last night, a race that fell apart with so many fallers but he rides a much more speedy sort here in this one of Gordon Elliot's. Like last year, Elliot drew a blank on day one before landing three on day two and although we can't be certain he will do the same again, he has a bright prospect here and there are very good vibes emanating from the yard. The only real threats coming from Mullins and Nicholls yards but this fella is well fancied and expected to win this. At 9/2 with Paddy Power, is a stonking EW proposition. ”

She has a tough task to beat the favourite but she will love the ground and will be staying on strongly where it matters. A cracking EW bet at the 15/2 here B365 paying 1/4 odds (BOG). 1pt EW”

“From the Venetia Williams yard and has been aimed at this event since winning at Warwick a couple of months ago. Plenty of decent sorts in here notably Ami Desbois who was unlucky not to win for us last teim over this course and distance and while he has risen again in the weights, the main threat may well come from the other end of the handicap with NIck Williams' Horatio Hornblower likely to go close. However, this is a young horse on the upgrade and he is expected to continue his progress here, especially with young Hugh Nugent taking a further 7lb off. Priced up at 9/2 (B 365, Lads, PP etc) and with 1/4 the odds a place, an excellent EW proposition here. Well fancied. 0.75 pts EW”

Of the others, the top two are the ones to beat. Fancied.”

“Initially, the messages from the Evan Williams yard pointed us in the direction of Secret Reprieve but on closer scrutiny, and if we're wrong, we're wrong the yard has been struggling with most of its runners of late and it is some time since they have had one run well let alone won with it. As a result, the messages from this yard take precedence and theyre keen enough on this one who has a big weight but the benefit of Lorcan Williams to help offset the penalties. As things stand, it may well be that the Tizzard horse, Lamanver Pippin is the main threat but this fella is expected to see that one off and is fancied to win this.”

She takes on some interesting sorts but nothing that stands out from the crowd and the vibes from the Fergal O'Brien camp are positive. That said, she is a 5/1 chance with B365, Betway and Paddy Power and on that basis, with another big run expected, is a sound EW proposition here. Fancied.”

“From the Colin Tizzard camp and strictly on what we can see doesnt have the form to win this but he has improved over the Summer and is reportedly working well with horses rated much higher. He has one or two to beat, notably the Seamus Mullins trained Inspireus but is well fancied to land good EW bets here at around 6/1 (Unibet).”
Won 11/2

1435 starsports.bet Novices' Chase
3 Rio Quinto (FR) 6 11-0 Olly Murphy Aidan Coleman
“From the Ollie Murphy camp that has provided some nice winners for us of late and this one is quietly fancied to cause a minor shock here against the very short priced Bastien. Jumps well and quietly fancied here.”
Won 6/1

1530 MansionBet Mares' Novices' Hurdle
1 Liberty Bella 5 11-6 B Eckley R T Dunne
“There appeared to be no fluke whatsoever about this one's success at Ludlow last time and certainly the vibes within the inner circle indicate they were impressed with the way she went about it. On that basis and discussing the opposition with our sources here, it won't be at all surprising if she were to win again today., Only the Hobbs and Pauling horses would be of concern with Cedar Valley likely to be the main threat but nevertheless, despite the penalty this one of Brian Eckley's is fancied to win this. ”

12 Greaneteen (FR) 4 11-4 P F Nicholls Bryony Frost
“Ran well when just in need of the the run first time up but has improved significantly since then and has both worked and schooled well. Healthy respect for the Fry horse, Caribert and also Greatrex's Article Fifty but this fella very much fancied to win here with Bryony Frost aboard..”

5 Aux Ptits Soins (FR) 9 11-4 D Skelton Harry Skelton
“Needed the run very badly last time when close up in fifth at Newbury and has been aimed at this ever since. Have been desperately trying to find out about the Northern horse and one or two others to determine the strngth of the bet but is very wellf ancied and the Skeltons will be mortified if he doesnt win ehre., Well fancied. 0.75pt EW at 5s Bet365.”

“HUge late message for this one of Piepes who has been working the house down by all accoun ts. Scu comes here to ride at this meeting rather than elsewhere and this fella considered well above average and wellf ancied to win this. Imppossible to ignore the strength of the message and 0.75pt win ”

5 Calipso Collonges (FR) 6 11-2 Olly Murphy R Johnson
“From Olly Murphy's yard and theyre still in very decent form and this one is quietly fancied to cause something of a surprise here. Has the top jock aboard in Dickie Johnson and has reportedly schooled well enough to provide connections with the confidence to go in here. Will be a decent price in an open contest and although only 7 runners, is well worth our EW interest here.”
Won 11/1

1330 MansionBet Handicap Chase
5 Treackle Tart (IRE) 6 11-7 C E Longsdon Paul O'Brien
“Another from the Charlie Longsdon stable and this one expected to do the job at a tasty price. That said it won't be easy in this decent little staying event with one or two unexposed sorts in opposition such as Station Master and Terry The Fish. Nevertheless at 11/1 with both B365 and PP, is very much fancied to reward EW support here. ”

3 Elegant Escape (IRE) 6 11-8 C L Tizzard T J O'Brien
“There is little doubt this is a potentially top class chaser and he is also potentiallyu thrown in here. Has conditions to suit and although we were unable to hold up the price any longer, he is still the one they all have to beat. That said if it becomes a real slog then the Pipe horse that rana blinder for us at Aintree would come into it but this fella the one to be with here. 1pt EW 5/1 (B365)”

2 Adrien Du Pont (FR) 6 11-12 P F Nicholls H Cobden
“A field full of potential non stayers but while respecting their ability, it remains to be seen whether Kilcrea Vale and Springtown Lake will get home. This fella has run over the trip once, at Ascot, and performed well when still needing the run and is expected to show up well here. He will be an EW price too and we'll be happy to back him on that basis. Well Fancied EW here.”

3 Willie Boy (IRE) 7 11-9 C E Longsdon R T Dunne
“In the process of running an absolute stormer behind Baron Alco in the Bet Victor Chase at athe Open meeting at Cheltenham and although he came downfour out would defintely have landed our EW bets with enhanced options had he stayed upright. Today he takes a step down in grade and with conditions to suit he is fancied to overcome the Ruth Jefferson trained, Special Catch. Fancied to win here. 0.75pt win.”

2 Ballymoy (IRE) 5 11-7 N A Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies
“Useful hurdle event and this fella showed up well in a top class Listed handicap last time. He takes on a couple who are making their seaosn al debuts, notably, Bettergetalong of NIcky Richards but this fella is getting the step up in trip he needs and with the ground ideal for him he is well fancied to win this. Wont be much of a price now we have let the cat out of the bag but nevertheless, well worth 1pt win.”
Won 5/6F

1355 Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) (Registered As The Kennel Gate)
1 Angels Breath (IRE) 4 11-0 N J Henderson Nico de Boinville
“Ex pointer who has a tall reputation and while thats a remark that applies to most of these, this fella is considered well above average and will enjoy the prevailing conditions here. Naturally, he will get further in due course but with heavy ground assisting he will be staying on at the death here and that is a big factor. Of the others, healthy respect for Tom George's Seddon and ex flat racer, Garbanzo but if this fella as good as they say, he should be winning this here. 1pt win 2/1 generally.”

Continuing our Cheltenham 2019 review…

Day 3, Thursday 14th March

Onto the new course then on Thursday and the ground a good deal quicker than it was on the opening day. The first event of the day saw us land a nice touch when the Philip Hobbs trained, Defi Du Seuil duly obliged and landed some nice bets for us, well backed into 3/1. It was a More...

Day 1, Tuesday 12th March

So, on the Tuesday we were confronted with the type of ground that the majority of the country’s trainers had been crying out for, for the previous three months but didn’t More...

Another BIG DAY on Wednesday

WHAT A GREAT DAY we enjoyed last Wednesday at CHELTENHAM with BAND OF OUTLAWS 5/1 to 7/2 and ENVOI ALLEN  7/2 into 2/1 both obliging and our old friend BALLYANDY once again ran his heart out, going down by only a half length backed from 22/1 into 14/1 - what a superstar he has been for us at three Festivals! Not long after, URGENT De GREGAINE landed our largest bet of the day, the PROFESSIONAL BET  though, unfortunately, he bumped into a Tiger Roll that looks much improved and our horse had to settle for place money but the job was done and profit made, advised at 9/1 and backed into 17/2. A SUPERB DAY in prospect this Wednesday with meetings at Haydock, Chepstow and Market Rasen.   More...

The AGONY and the ECSTACY On Day 3

A day of mixed emotions at CHELTENHAM on Thursday with BEST BET PAISLEY PARK powering up the hill to take the Stayers Hurdle, heavily supported from 7/4 to 11/8, and DEFI DU SEUIL taking the opener in fine style at 3/1, plus ROAD TO RESPECT and DIDERO VALLIS landiing good ew bets. But, oh the AGONY we suffered as 50/1 JOB (when advised) TOBEFAIR looked sure to win only to be nutted on the line by the favourite! That's racing, though, and we remain in FINE FETTLE for the final day when many of you will recall that LE PREZIEN ended the Festioval in style for us last year, landing a MASSIVE GAMBLE from 12/1 to 15/2! More...

A terrific end to the day on day two as ENVOI ALLEN backed from 7/2 into 2/1, completed a brilliant afternoon for us at CHeltenham. After huge placed efforts in the first two, BALLYANDY once again ran his heart out for us, going down by only a half length backed from 22/1 into 14/1. What a superstar he has been for us at three Festivals. Not long after, URGENT De GREGAINE landed our largest bet of the day, the PROFESSIONAL BET we had been trying to keep under our hats until this day for nearly two months. Unfortunately, he bumped into a Tiger Roll that looks an improved version on the one that has been winning everything before him and after moving up menacingly two out, hard on the bridle, our horse had to settle for place money but the job was done and profit made! They say you make your own luck....10/1 BEST Bet Wins

It was looking to be one of those days for much of Tuesday at Cheltenham. Angels Breath got badly struck into in the first, before Mick Channons Glen Forsa unseated his rider when making a tiny mistake early on in the Arkle and then when Buveur D'Air missed out in the Champion it looked like the only luck we were getting on day one was of the bad variety. However, our decision to follow our best marks and, indeed, our instinct produced a nice 10/1 Best Bet WINNER when ROKSANA took advantage More...
